Astrology and Mayan Tzolkin for January 12th to the 24th 2014

This is the "Care and feeding of a New World Age" report for Gregorian date of January 12th 2014 for 1 - Manik "man-eek" or Deer in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar, also the Cancer full moon, and the Sun moving into Aquarius.
January 12th 2014 is 1 - Manik "man-eek" or Deer which carries the themes of service, healing, protection and sacrifice, intuitive and instinctual knowledge, the four directions, shamanic energy, ritual dance, dignity, respect, and breaking free of limitations. The ritual Deer Dance symbolizes the sanctity and balance between people and nature. The energy of Deer is to rise up above the limitations of living a life only on the physical plane. This is a time to connect with spirituality though ceremony, dance, ritual and being in nature. It is also a time to find the strength to break free of anything limiting spiritual growth and healing.
Before I get into the daily energy for Deer, on the 12th all the planets appear to move forward from our vantage point on Earth except Venus and Jupiter, which appear to move retrograde or in reverse motion.  I've discussed in depth the implications of the other planets moving retrograde in past reports, so I'll just keynote each one. Venus retrograde in Capricorn brings the planet of esthetics, romance, and money to remain in the sign of the goat-fish for four months. Venus is retrograde from the Winter Solstice December 21st, at 28 and change almost 29 degrees of Capricorn until January 31st at 13 Capricorn, which will be the time when we will notice events related to our relationships and/or money that shifts our thinking to prepare us for the change we will implement after Venus is direct. Also Venus retrograde brings people from our past pulling at our heartstrings. Jupiter was the king of the gods, and the planet is about good fortune, opportunities, faith, religion, beliefs and expansion. Cancer is about family, home, nurturing, and protection. Mostly what I find with Jupiter retrograde, as with any retrograde cycle there is a review of the past, and with Jupiter what gets reviewed are missed opportunities. In Cancer these are likely to be related to home and family. When I think of these two retrogrades in concert in January, we may have folks reviewing their past relationships for missed opportunities. Because Venus also rules money we'll be reviewing past financial dealings with an eye for choices that did not work out as planned. Overall something from the past needs to be resolved as we are moving into a nine month in numerology in February, whether it's love relationships, or financial connections, and in Capricorn, we need to be committed to our resolution. This is a push to tie up loose ends as we move into 2014 and a new season with Venus retrograde. Overall I think the trap to watch out for is regret. The past is the past, so let go of regrets and try not to waste much thought on whether someone who has dumped you in the past, regrets their choice. I think those without regrets tend to be shallow people and if you were tossed aside by one of them, they probably did you a favor, but with Mars in Libra, some will aggressively pursue those partners that they regret losing.
With one inner planet Venus and one outer planet Jupiter retrograde, I thought I'd take this time to discuss the mechanics of retrograde planets. I originally created this diagram to demonstrate how planets appear to move in reverse. It is not drawn to scale and uses the tropical system, but I believe it will be helpful to our understanding. The circles represent the planets' orbits around the Sun and the lines originating at the Earth represent the astrological divisions of the signs as observed from the Earth. The positions of the planets and the signs of the zodiac are set for January 12th. First we can see that as the Earth moves in its orbit, counter clockwise in this diagram, the Sun appears to move through the astrological signs in order. During a time period when a planet is said to be in direct motion it appears to move counter clockwise relative to the astrological reference points. The further a planet is away from the Sun the larger its orbit. With Mercury and Venus we can see that when their orbit is closer to the Earth and between the Earth and the Sun, they appear to move in reverse, clock wise,  relative to the zodiac from the perspective here on Earth. In the diagram Venus is at 20 degrees Capricorn as it appears to be moving retrograde from the Earth and prepares to enter the backside of its orbit where it will be said to be moving direct on January 31st. Mercury is approaching its turning point where it will appear to move backwards or retrograde during February. The planets outside the Earth's orbit, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto appear to move in reverse as the Earth passes them on its inner track. If we use a line tangent to the arc of the Earth's orbit and move it as the Earth moves, we can see that the leading edge of the line shows where an outer planet appears to move retrograde and following edge shows where the planet appears to move direct again. Jupiter will turning direct on March 6th at 10 degrees Cancer. Mars and Saturn in March and Pluto in April will be the next outer planets to turn retrograde.
Ok let's look at the daily vibrational energy for this trecena. January 12th 2014 is 1 - Manik "man-eek" or Deer: unity experienced through being of service to others, as the Gemini Moon is stimulated by Uranus and supported by Mars which moves from pleasant yet restless energy that desires emotional excitement to later bringing the energy for asserting ourselves in a positive manner and standing our ground if necessary. The 13th is 2 - Lamat "la-maught" or Star or Rabbit: duality experienced through being grateful for abundant relationships, as the Cancer Moon makes no major aspects which is a good day to take it easy and enjoy home and family. January 14th is 3 - Muluc "moo-luke" or Offering: taking action through appreciating creation, while the Moon in Cancer finds support from Neptune, is challenged by Uranus, and opposed by Pluto which brings a day which shifts from fantasies and daydreams distracting us from accomplishing routine tasks, to later people likely to act hasty and jump to conclusions, and finally brings deep emotions rising to the surface. The 15th is 4 - Oc "awk" or Dog: stability through enjoying family and friends, while we experience the Cancer Full Moon with the moon at 25 almost 26 degrees Cancer, merging with Jupiter, challenged by Mars, opposed by Venus and the Sun, and supported by Saturn. These transits underscore the themes of good feelings and generosity towards others, with the potential for people to be irritable and have needless disputes, pleasant energy for enjoying sensual experiences and rich food with a caution against overindulgence, having a sober realistic view of life, leading up to the full moon's time of tension as the Sun in Capricorn is about work, career, who we are in the outer world trying to find balance with home, nurturing and our inner emotional world represented by the Moon in Cancer, which forms a t-square with Mars in Libra at the head, in a 90 degree angle with the Moon opposite the Sun and Venus. This is a powerful full moon for a number of reasons as we try to balance our irritability with our generosity, our desire for pleasure with our realistic view of our world, and most importantly our careers with our home life. January 16th is 5 - Chuen "shoe-in" or Monkey: empowerment through creating something new, with Venus squaring Mars which tends to arouse interest in the opposite sex that is physical and perhaps sexual in nature, but this energy can also lead to discord if there are hidden tensions in a relationship. Healthy relationships should not have difficulties during this transit, whose function is to test the pairing. It's basically about on one side engaging in what's pleasurable for you and your partner and on the other side where are the tensions that lead to disputes that come from unexpressed sexuality. The amount of love energy will determine which way the dice will fall. This creates difficulty for couples trying to keep interactions nice and easy, while not expressing the drives that Mars is known for. Relationships begun under this transit tend to be based only on physical attraction, as the Leo Moon makes no major angles which brings another day where we should rest and take the time to integrate the changing energies we are experiencing. The 17th is 6 - Eb "eb" or Road: being in the flow through serving your community, as we have Mercury sextile Uranus, which brings new discoveries and new people into our lives with an overall sense of excitement and innovation as Mercury interacts with its higher octave planet Uranus. Flexibility is helpful to experience this transit with its excitement and interest, if you find this disruptive you may want to examine your attitude regarding deviating from the preordained plan of the day. This is good for looking at old problems that have troubled you in the past with fresh eyes. Challenges may be approached as new puzzles to solve as thinking becomes more inspired. Not a day where you will be content to follow your usual routine, so leave some room for spontaneity with new ideas and experiences being the reward of going with the flow. Also on the 17th the Moon in Leo finds support from Uranus, is opposed by Mercury, and stimulated by Mars, which gives us an emotional wave that moves from having the impulse to engage in activities that make us feel more alive along with some feeling a real conflict between feelings and reason and others having fruitful expressions of their deeper awareness either internally or with another, and then later brings the desire to work independently from others. January 18th is 7 - Ben "ben" or Reed or Corn: reflection through maintaining the home, while the Leo Moon is challenged by Saturn at 3:51 am EST, which brings people feeling lonely or isolated, and then is Void Of Course until going into Virgo at 8:23 pm EST, during which time it's best to avoid making major decisions or purchases. The 19th is 8 - Ix "eesh" or Jaguar: balance through enjoying nature, as the Sun enters into Aquarius which shifts the focus to social consciousness, while being true to our individuality to share our inventive ideas with groups and communities. This is a future oriented sign of innovation which often comes from being unorthodox in thinking, while the Virgo Moon is opposed by Neptune, supported by Pluto, and in harmony with Jupiter. The day's emotional energy moves from feeling sensitive emotionally but confused regarding the accuracy of what's being felt, to later bringing out intense emotions and stimulating sensitivity, which also favors sexual relationships, and finally feeling in the flow and having a sense of wholeness. January 20th is 9 - Men "men" or Eagle: patience experienced through seeing from a higher perspective, while the Moon in Virgo finds support from Venus and harmonizes with Saturn which moves from enjoying social interactions with others to later wanting to be alone in our thoughts and feelings. The 21st is 10 - Cib "keeb" or Wisdom: manifestation through introspection, meditation and forgiveness, with the Libra Moon finding support from the Sun which influences people to have a sense of harmony within ourselves and supports any type of group activity and relationships with the opposite sex. January 22nd is 11 - Caban "kah-ban" or Earth: resolution through gratitude for Mother Earth, while the Moon in Libra is opposed by Uranus, challenged by Pluto, Jupiter, and Venus, finds support from Mercury, and merges with Mars. Emotionally this day has a lot of twists and turns beginning with folks being emotionally excitable and impulsive, then having the compulsion to act in ways that may not be good for us in the long run, which shifts to benevolent and generous feelings for those in our immediate environment, then later having pleasant energy to be with friends and loved ones, followed by feeling in touch with our emotions and expressing them to others, and finally experiencing irritable moods and critical communications. The 23rd is 12 - Etznab "etz-nob" or Flint: understanding through being introspective, while the Scorpio Moon is finding support from Neptune which causes our innermost subconscious fantasies and daydreams to confuse reality, which may not be great for accomplishing much work. January 24th is 13 - Cauac "cow-ack" or Storm: movement to the next stage through recognizing the gifts in adversity, while we have Mercury trine Mars which is good for mental work, with more energy than usual and the willingness to tackle difficult problems. People will be speaking their minds, not to get into fights, but to get their ideas out into the open. This transit brings confidence of expressing beliefs without fear of letting others know where you stand. This can also bring a certain boldness and innovativeness to plans made at this time. While the last quarter Moon in Scorpio challenged by the Sun, in harmony with Pluto and Venus, and finding support from Jupiter moves us from encountering challenges to our daily routines, to experiencing deep emotions on a profound level along with people having a pleasant sense of wellbeing, and finally having pleasant energy to be with friends and loved ones.
So no matter what energies are affecting you during this 1 Deer trecena, take some time to be in the flow of the planet by being in nature, watching a sunrise or sunset, communing with the stars, being conscious of the moment through introspection, meditation or being with someone you love. Every day is a blessing no matter what dramas beckon to distract us. We are all giving the performance of a life time on this world stage, just take some time to observe the play as well as act your part. Remember you are a spiritual being having a human experience.
