Astrology and Mayan Tzolkin for September 28th to October 3rd 2015

This is the "Care and feeding of a New World Age" report for Gregorian date of September 28th 2015 and 1 – Chuen "shoe-in" or Monkey in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar, with Venus returning to Virgo, and Mercury turning direct.

September 28th is 1 - Chuen "shoe-in" or Monkey carries the themes of new beginnings, good fortune, innocent curiosity leading to artistic expression, mischief similar to "Coyote spirit" and trickster gods in many native traditions, generosity, the "Jack of All Trades", weaving the threads of time, craftsmanship, and wisdom keeping. 1 - Monkey is the 131st day in the 260 day Tzolkin calendar marking the beginning of the second half of the round. The calendar starts with Crocodile as the primal nurturing energy for beginnings and the second half begins with Monkey as the artisan who creates something new. These are arbitrary points as many different Mayan groups celebrate different days to begin the Tzolkin round and ultimately it is just that, round like a circle having no beginning or end. The 1- Monkey trecena is a good thirteen day period to be generous with your creativity, wisdom, curiosity, and time to help others explore new beginnings and, in doing so, discovering something new in yourself.

It's interesting that Mercury is completing its retrograde cycle and turning direct during the Monkey trecena of the Mayan Tzolkin calendar, because the Monkey also represented the trickster to the Maya. In the Mayan "Popul Vuh" the hero twins, who are mistreated by their half brothers, trick their brothers into climbing a tree where they are transformed into monkeys, which is how the Monkey day sign became connected to the trickster archetype.

Since we begin a new Gregorian month during this trecena, I thought I'd discuss the metaphysics of the upcoming month. October is the tenth month and with the digits for 2015, when added together we get 9, then we have a nine month in numerology. Basic numerology reduces numbers to one through nine, so when we think about that arc the 9 represents a time of completion. The new cycle begins in November of 2015. As a nine month, October 2015 is about completing tasks and projects that were initiated in February, and anything that is no longer needed is wrapped up and moved out of the way of the new cycle. This also brings the energy that what is begun must be completed. So this month is a time to tie up loose ends so we clean our plate for something new, as events begin to give us hints about a new direction to take. October is about clearing out the old people, places, and things to make room for their new counterparts which will emerge in November. The nine is represented by the Hermit archetype in the Tarot cards, which is also about completion, contemplation, and introspection. This is the archetype of the wise lantern barer. The way shower whose life experience guides others through similar passages. This quote from Michel de Montaigne from Of Solitude represents the Hermit archetype, "The finest thing in the world is knowing how to belong to oneself." So October this year represents completion the numerological cycle to prepare for new beginnings in November, which is supported by Mercury retrograde completing its reviewing the past. Also the Hermit is the Virgo card in the Tarot while we have a stellium building in Virgo, with Mars and Jupiter in the sign of the maiden, joined by Venus on the 8th, then followed by the Moon later on 8th the where it finishes out the trecena. Virgo is about health, service and helping others. Venus and Jupiter are benefics in astrology, so this October has emphasis on being benefited through providing service. And Mars in the sign gives drive to be industrious in helping others during the Hermit’s attention to detail and completing what has been begun. This also benefits our actions (Mars) to improve our health (Virgo) which in turn helps our appearance (Venus) and our longevity (Jupiter). I think serving others (Virgo) will bring expansion of opportunities (Jupiter) and the things we value (Venus) through the efforts we make (Mars).

Before I get into the daily energy for 1 Chuen "shoe-in" or Monkey, on the 28th all the planets appear to be moving forward from our vantage point on Earth, except Mercury, Chiron, Uranus, and Neptune which appears to move retrograde or in reverse motion. Remember the themes of retrograde planets are the review the past, re-evaluate, reminisce and we can see these themes being played out. Mercury is retrograde in Libra until the 9th which would be a good time to avoid signing contracts or other legal papers, making any major purchases, or even taking a new job. If you can postpone these types of activities the terms will be much clearer after Mercury is moving direct. That may seem impossible, so if you can avoid these activities a few days before and after Mercury changing directions on the 9th, when the energy is at its most potent, would be beneficial. Mercury retrogrades force us to slow down and pay more attention to our lives by making us focus on the details of our daily experience. When looking at a retrograde cycle of any of the personal or inner planets, it provides information about a correction to our present course. Chiron retrograde in Pisces is about releasing stuck emotional energy, so that we can return to the natural flow of life. Retrograde Chiron has us reviewing our wounds so that they can be released, by having the courage to open our hearts to any fear or pain associated with our past. When Chiron is in Pisces people are willing to sacrifice their individual pain in hopes of finding bliss in Universal consciousness. At its worst this can manifest as folks justifying their victimhood as some form of martyrdom. This should be transcendence and surrender without losing ourselves in the experience. Uranus in Aries retrograde until December 26th. Uranus seeks to shake our very foundation through the unexpected rebellion of the individual. Retrograde Uranus in Aries will have people wanting to hurry the process of getting free. To push the river of revolution whether it be personal or political. Neptune retrograde is seeking transcendence through spiritual experiences. This will be a time to use spiritual practices to keep us grounded as we expand our intuition and consciousness. Both Neptune and Pisces, the sign it rules, tend to be dreamy, imaginative, difficult to nail down due to their qualities of illusion and illumination often without any way to know which is which. They represent compassion and co-dependence, selflessness and loss of self, higher purpose and substance abuse, in their inspiration to transcend the material plane and experience something beyond words and thoughts.

Ok let's look at the daily vibrational energy for this trecena.
September 28th is 1 - Chuen "shoe-in" or Monkey: unity experienced through creating something new in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar, with the Aries Moon opposed by Mercury, challenged by Pluto, and merging with Uranus which shifts some feeling a real conflict between feelings and reason and others having fruitful expressions of their deeper awareness either internally or with another, then later having the compulsion to act in ways that may not be good for us in the long run, and finally people feeling impulsive and acting rashly, with moods changing quickly and unexpectedly.

The 29th is 2 – Eb "eb" or Road: duality experienced through serving your community, as the Moon finds support from Venus and Mars which moves from enjoying social interactions with others, followed by feeling a little more confident than usual with the ability to assert ourselves in a positive manner.

September 30th is 3 – Ben "ben" or Reed or Corn: taking action through maintaining the home, while the Sun conjuncts retrograde Mercury which prior to turning retrograde Mercury appears to be way out in front of the Sun, then retrogrades back to conjoin the Sun, and then falls behind the Sun. Prior to mechanized warfare Generals would send their cavalry ahead of the infantry to scout out the enemy's location, find possible resources, as well as the lay of the terrain to move the troops with maximum efficiency, safety and to their strategic advantage. I like to think of Mercury when it is stretching out in front of the Sun as gathering intelligence to report back to our consciousness' during its conjunction to the Sun. Also on the 30th the Taurus Moon in harmony with Neptune, and supported by Jupiter and Pluto which shifts from greater sensitivity to others' emotions with possible psychic impressions for those who are open, followed by people having a pleasant sense of wellbeing, and finally feeling on a deeper more intense level under the influence of Pluto.

October 1st is 4 - Ix "eesh" or Jaguar: stability through enjoying nature, with the Moon challenged by Venus and Mars, and opposed by Saturn, the days emotional energy moves from having pleasant energy to be with friends and loved ones, then later people feel lonely and isolated, and finally folks feeling irritable which could lead to needless disputes.

October 2nd is 5 - Men "men" or Eagle: empowerment through seeing from a higher perspective, while the Gemini Moon is supported by Mercury and the Sun, and challenged by Neptune and Jupiter. The day begins with feeling in touch with our emotions and expressing them to others, followed by daydreams and fantasies feeling more important than reality, then later feeling a sense of inner harmony which is mirrored in the outside world, and finally having benevolent and generous feelings for those in our immediate environment.

The 3rd is 6 – Cib "keeb" or Wisdom: being in the flow through introspection, meditation and forgiveness, with the Moon in Gemini harmonizing with Uranus and Venus, which shifts from having pleasant yet restless feelings craving emotional excitement to do something outside the daily routine, to later wanting to be with friends and the people we love.

October 4th is 7 Caban "kah-ban" or Earth: reflection through gratitude for Mother Earth, while the last quarter Cancer Moon is challenged by Mercury and the Sun, in harmony with Mars and Jupiter, supported by Neptune, and opposed by Pluto. This brings a busy day of emotional stimulus that goes from our moods influencing our ability to think rationally, followed by the desire to work independently from others, then fantasies and daydreams distracting us from accomplishing routine tasks, later we encounter challenges to our daily routines with feeling in the flow and having a sense of wholeness, and finally deep emotions rising to the surface.

The 5th is 8 - Etznab "etz-nob" or Flint: balance through being introspective, with the Moon in Cancer challenged by Uranus which has folks acting hasty and jumping to conclusions that may not be correct.

October 6th is 9 – Cauac "cow-ack" or Storm: patience experienced through recognizing the gifts in adversity, while the Sun squares Pluto, which brings a tense time period when the Libra Sun squares Pluto in Capricorn, and powerful forces that test us from within and without. These tests may lead us to make radical changes in some area of our life that is not working very well. This can be very beneficial for letting go of the old patterns or behaviors that come up for examination at this time. Holding on to what is not working will just make life more difficult. This transit also indicates that persons in authority may demand that we account for our actions or even ourselves. Some people will abuse the power they are wielding under this influence. Also this indicates a breakdown of situations and machinery. No matter what your experience something will make you aware that it needs fixing, and my advice is to fix it whether it's a machine, a relationship, a behavior, or pattern that no longer works. Also on the 6th Mercury sextiles Saturn which is great for constructive criticism that comes from being able to see what can be improved in our surrounding environment. We are very conscious of flaws, including our own, so we can use our critical eye to what should be changed to bring improvement. This can be very serious in its pursuit of betterment, make sure your honoring what is positive, so not to get overwhelmed by the many imperfections that are in view with this transit. Older people may serve as teachers and mentors at this time. This is nice energy for working carefully on any mental task from a place of concentration and precision, whereas activities that require a great scope of vision may be more difficult. This is about the details, rather than the overall pattern. Difficulty seeing the forest for the trees. Also on the 6th Mars opposes Neptune which can feel debilitating, as it can bring feelings of inadequacy and discouragement. Physical energy also tends to be low when Mars dances with Neptune, rest and avoiding undue stress are indicated, rather than trying to push through which could lead to illness. Also take care with interactions with others as folks are more likely to misrepresent themselves, and avoid becoming involved in deceiving others as well. This transit may also bring about unpleasant consequences to past actions that were less than truthful. Mars opposing Neptune favors working in seclusion, social work, or any activity that is in the interest of other people. Also on the 6th the Leo Moon finds support from Saturn and harmony from Mercury which shifts from having a sober realistic view of life, to later people feeling chatty and having numerous conversations.

The 7th is 10 – Ahau "ah-how" or Sun: manifestation through honoring the wisdom and memory of our ancestors, while the Moon in Leo harmonizes with the Sun and is supported by Uranus which moves from feeling balance between our inner and outer worlds, followed by having the impulse to engage in activities that make us feel more alive.

October 8th is 11 – Imix "e-meesh" or Crocodile: resolution through nurturing new beginnings, with Venus enters Virgo which brings a level of caution to romance and socializing. This will be a time when people want to feel special in the eyes of their partners. For some reason this placement of Venus tends to promote scandal. This can also bring a love for the world at large rather than just one person. With Venus is in Virgo, the sign ruled by Mercury, and Mercury is in Libra, the sign ruled by Venus, we have Mutual Reception between the two planets. This means they assist each other and that their energies merge, with folks putting more thought into their friendships, and social connections until Mercury changes signs on November 2nd. Also on the 8th the Virgo Moon merges with Venus and is challenged by Saturn, which shifts from which feels cheerful, warm, gregarious, and wanting to go out and socialize, to later people feeling lonely or isolated.

The 9th is 12 -  Ik "eek" or Wind: understanding through communication, while Mercury turns direct at 0 degrees Libra, which will bring forward the information that brings a new sense of our course correction to heading in the right direction. It will take Mercury a few day to build momentum, so patience is important until the messenger gets up to speed and we feel our lives moving in a forward direction. Also on the 9th the Moon in Virgo is opposed by Neptune, merges with Mars and Jupiter, and finds support from Pluto, which moves from feeling sensitive emotionally but confused regarding the accuracy of what's being felt, followed by experiencing irritable moods and critical communications, then later good feelings and generosity towards others, and finally Pluto bringing out intense emotions and stimulating sensitivity, which also favors sexual relationships.

October 10th is 13 – Akbal "awk-bol" or Night: movement to the next stage through contemplating the stars, while Venus squares Saturn which can be a day of having difficulty relating to others, feeling cool, reserved, isolated... Many will be reevaluating what they are getting out of their relationships as compared to what they are putting in. If you feel loneliness or depression on the 10th, just realize that this too shall pass. Also on the 10th the Moon in Virgo makes no angles and is void of course until moving into Libra on the 11th, which does not favor major decisions or purchases, but is good to use for resting to assimilate this latest round of energy and experiences.

So no matter what energies are affecting you during this 1 Monkey trecena, take some time to be in the flow of the planet by being in nature, watching a sunrise or sunset, communing with the stars, being conscious of the moment through introspection, meditation or being with someone you love. Every day is a blessing no matter what dramas beckon to distract us. We are all giving the performance of a life time on this world stage, just take some time to observe the play as well as act your part. Remember you are a spiritual being having a human experience.
