Astrology and Mayan Tzolkin for September 29th to October 11th 2014

This is the "Care and feeding of a New World Age" report for Gregorian date of September 29th 2014 for 1 - Manik "man-eek" or Deer in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar, with Venus moving into Libra, Mercury turns retrograde, Aries Full moon, and Mercury moves back into Libra.

September 29th 2014 for 1 - Manik "man-eek" or Deer carries the themes of service, healing, protection and sacrifice, intuitive and instinctual knowledge, the four directions, shamanic energy, ritual dance, dignity, respect, and breaking free of limitations. The ritual Deer Dance symbolizes the sanctity and balance between people and nature. The energy of Deer is to rise up above the limitations of living a life only on the physical plane. This is a time to connect with spirituality though ceremony, dance, ritual and being in nature. It is also a time to find the strength to break free of anything limiting spiritual growth and healing.

Since we begin a new Gregorian month during this trecena, I thought I'd discuss the metaphysics of the upcoming month. October is the tenth month and with the digits for 2014, when added together we get 8, so we have an eight month in numerology. Basic numerology reduces numbers to one through nine, so when we think about that arc the eight represents a time of picking up the pace as we are preparing to complete the cycle next month. This can also bring revisions to financial situations, businesses, investments, and industry. The eight is represented by the Justice/Adjustment archetype in the Tarot cards, which is about finding balance in our path to know ourselves. This also brings the energy that what is begun must be completed. This quote from Ralph Blum from Book of Runes represents the Adjustment/Justice archetype, "Know thyself, Nothing in excess. The Self is required to balance the self." So October represents moving toward completion in November, as July brought us new options, and August brought us further down the path regarding the situations that lead to a new life, we began a time of evolution in September, that leads to the solar and lunar eclipses in October, and Mercury retrogrades from Scorpio back into Libra, to review the information and actions that occurred while Mars spent 8 months in the sign of the scales. In November we complete the numerological cycle.

A very favorable Grand Trine in the Fire signs began September 24th and is currently building and will be in orb until October 14th, with Mars in Sagittarius, Jupiter in Leo, and Uranus in Aries. Jupiter trine Uranus, exact September 25th, brings the desire for expression by doing something outside of the normal routine. This transit can bring a sudden surprise opportunity or some sort of new chance that can be beneficial. Mars trines Uranus, exact October 5th, brings new activities and encounters, some occurring quite unexpectedly, that are exciting and have the potential for personal growth. Risk taking under this influence will give a greater sense of being alive. This can be used to break down barriers in our lives without having to impulsively destroy everything we see as a restriction. Mars trines Jupiter, exact October 8th, which has high energy for physical activities and growth of consciousness and knowledge. It brings forward movement through opening doors and opportunities that lead in the right direction. Optimism and positive energy bring more favorable results if we find the need to take a gamble on an unknown venture. When we put it all together we have an unexpected (Uranus) opportunity (Jupiter) to take action (Mars). During this time period folks may take chances to begin something new (Aries) through creativity (Leo) with fortunate results (Sagittarius). This fire energy will be outspoken, bold, and challenging. Action will be required when an opportunity is suddenly revealed.

Before I get into the daily energy for 1 - Manik "man-eek" or Deer trecena, on the 29th all the planets appear to be moving forward from our vantage point on Earth except Chiron, Uranus, and Neptune which appear to move retrograde or in reverse motion. Remember the themes of retrograde planets are the review the past, re-evaluate, reminisce and we can see theses theme being played out. Chiron retrograde in Pisces is about releasing stuck emotional energy, so that we can return to the natural flow of life. Uranus in Aries is seeking to shake our very foundation through the unexpected rebellion of the individual. Retrograde Uranus in Aries will have people wanting to hurry the process of getting free. To push the river of revolution whether it be personal or political. Being an outer planet, Uranus creates events that we "respond" to. The inner planets effect us personally as individuals, but the outer planets change the landscape which effects us as a collective and as individuals within humanity. Neptune in its own sign of Pisces is seeking transcendence through spiritual experiences. This will be a time to use spiritual practices to keep us grounded as we expand our intuition and consciousness.

The big change in the Deer trecena is Mercury changing directions, as it moves retrograde on the 4th and turns direct on the 25th, so most of October would be a good time to avoid signing contracts or other legal papers, making any major purchases, or even taking a new job. If you can postpone these types of activities the terms will be much clearer after Mercury is moving direct. That may seem impossible, so if you can avoid these activities a few days before and after Mercury changing directions on the 4th and the 25th, when the energy is at its most potent, would also be beneficial. Mercury retrogrades force us to slow down and pay more attention to our lives by making us focus on the details of our daily experience. When looking at a retrograde cycle of any of the personal or inner planets, it provides information about a correction to our present course. During this report period we have Mercury finishing traveling through the first stage of the retrograde process since 9/14. There are two important points to be aware of in looking at the cycle. We look at the point where the planet appears to move backwards and the point where it appears to move forward again. The first stage represents the shadow time between passing 17 degrees Libra, the point where the planet will eventually begin moving forward again, and the point where the planet slows, stops, and begins moving in reverse, 2 degrees Scorpio. During the first stage we receive information about needing to adjust our direction. The second stage is the retrograde phase and is a time to watch the events that occur related to the information received in the 1st stage. The 3rd stage begins when the planet is moving forward again until crossing the degree where it originally turned retrograde. During the 3rd stage we move forward with a revision to our previous course. We entered the 1st stage for Mercury on September 14th, so from then until October 4th, we receive information about an adjustment that needs to be made in our lives. Mercury is retrograde from 10/4 at 2 Scorpio until 10/25 at 17 Libra, which will be the time when we will notice events that shift our thinking, and from October 25th to November 10th, we are in the 3rd stage where we implement the change in direction from the awareness gained through experiencing this process. Because Mercury retrogrades from Scorpio back into Libra, I've been discussing the two faces of the trickster. Mercury in Libra is about finding balance in our relationships and Mercury in Scorpio wants to get below the veneer and look at inner motivation, values, and ethics. I'd expect people to change their minds as Mercury changes signs.

I've discovered that Mercury retrogrades repeat every 79 years, so look for the reoccurrence of themes from 1935, 1856 and 1777. Let's see if those were interesting times. 1935 saw Adolph Hitler's reinstatement of the air force, the Luftwaffe and the rearmament of Nazi Germany, both in violation of the Treaty of Versailles, a Coup D'état attempt in Greece, the Harlem Race riot occurs in New York City after a teenager is brutally beaten, the Great Dust Bowl in the United States, other natural disasters being a 7.1 earthquake in Pakistan killing 40,000 people and the strongest hurricane to make landfall in the United States killing 423, FDR signed the Social Security act, the Congress of Industrial Organizations or CIO is created pushing the cause for industrial unionism, Heinrich Himmler's Lebenborn program is founded to support Nazi eugenics, Mao Zedong called for National United Front against the Japanese invasion, and the rise and fall of gangsters and bank robbers in the USA. 1856 brought an increase in the conflicts between pro-slavery and anti-slavery forces with armed conflicts particularly in Kansas, and senator Charles Sumner being beaten with a cane by congressman Preston Brooks for Sumner's speech attacking southerners who sympathized with the pro-slavery violence in Kansas rendering Sumner unable to return to duty for three years and Brooks becoming a hero across the south. The Taiping Rebellion, the Second Opium War, and the Anglo-Persian War were also events during 1856. 1856 was the time period when Neptune was last in Pisces, as it is currently, which was a time of more compassion for the suffering of slaves in the United States, but also more opposition to that compassion. Which has made its way back into the conscious event field with the awareness of police shooting people of color without probable cause, yet white people can carry military types of weapons in public without incident. Also this seems to be being played out in the theme of Wealth Inequality, which if all your income only pays for survival needs then isn't that a form of enslavement? And of course here in the United States we have millionaire legislators, who are voting for corporate interests over their constituents' needs. Perhaps this will be a time of change particularly given the Year of the Horse. We are certainly seeing an awakening in the USA with protests regarding Racism and Climate Change. I read that the 1% is becoming fearful of America erupting in a way that is similar to the French Revolution. 1777 saw the American Revolution becoming more heated with the Continental Army operating as an organized fighting unit. Interestingly tactics that we look at as carried out by patriots in history, would now be acts of terrorism from our modern viewpoint, such as attaching a time bomb to the hull of the HMS Eagle or placing cannons on Dorchester Heights overlooking Boston Harbor. These are themes of the Trickster archetype, to use cleverness and covert actions rather than attempt to battle a more powerful adversary on its own terms. During most of 1777, Pluto was in Capricorn, dismantling power structures that have out grown their usefulness, which is the last time period Pluto was in Capricorn until 2008, where it remains today. Clearly we are looking at cycles within cycles, the players have changed roles, but the themes of a decaying empire collapsing under its own weight, with individuals employing tactics of cleverness over direct confrontation, the oppressive power of fascist governments, economic decline increasing the chasm between the elite and the struggling throngs, and the growing compassion for those left without a voice are the fabric of our times.

If you look at the house of your astrological chart that contains 17 degrees of Libra  to 2 degrees of Scorpio, you can find the theme where you will experience revisions, reviews and rethinking of the characteristics represented by that house. For me, Mercury will move back and forth in my fifth house of children and creativity, so I expect this cycle to provide new information about my creative process and perhaps my relationships with children. No matter where the Mercury retrograde occurs in your chart, this often leads to changing choices, goals, and directions. In the world look for the themes of completion through emotional review of the past particularly related to ethics and inner motivation, while in Scorpio the first face of the Trickster, and then communications will turn towards topics like balance, fairness, and relationships when Mercury moves through Libra, representing the second face of the Trickster. All the Mercury retrogrades in 2014 move from a water sign to an air sign: Pisces to Aquarius, Cancer to Gemini, and now Scorpio to Libra.

As we began October Mercury slows down and turns retrograde at 2 degrees Scorpio on the 4th. When a planet slows down to a stop from our perspective here on earth, that planet is considered to be at the peak of its power and Mercury being at the peak of its power reminds me that the Greek god Hermes, who the Romans renamed to Mercury, was also the trickster god. He was the messenger of the Gods and if you weren't on his good side you might not get your message or it might be altered to mean something different than was intended. In mythology the trickster is a god, goddess, woman, man, animal or spirit that creates mischief by playing tricks and acting outside of the accepted rules of their community. I want share this quote from Joseph Campbell "Almost all non-literate mythology has a trickster-hero of some kind. . . . And there’s a very special property in the trickster: he always breaks in, just as the unconscious does, to trip up the rational situation. He’s both a fool and someone who’s beyond the system. And the trickster represents all those possibilities of life that your mind hasn’t decided it wants to deal with. The mind structures a lifestyle, and the fool or trickster represents another whole range of possibilities. He doesn’t respect the values that you’ve set up for yourself, and smashes them. . . . The fool is the breakthrough of the absolute into the field of controlled social orders." And that is a great description for Mercury retrograde. It also contains a formula for confronting a much more powerful foe. Being cunning over fighting on their terms.

Ok let's look at the daily vibrational energy for this trecena. September 29th 2014 for 1 - Manik "man-eek" or Deer: unity experienced through being of service to others, as Venus moves into Libra which is the sign ruled by Venus, so this is a happy place for the "Goddess of Love". People focus more on balancing their relationships with Venus in Libra. In Libra, Venus along with the Sun and eventually retrograde Mercury, fill in one of the now infamous cardinal signs as it moves toward activating the square with Uranus in Aries, and Pluto in Capricorn. Being an air sign, Venus in Libra is more romantic than sensual. Certainly the scales bring balance to the aesthetics of Venus. This may influence us to create the right trappings and ambience for romance, such as intimate candle lit dinners, a beautiful poem written for a lover, or some other charming way to express a special love for our partners. Also on the 29th the Sagittarius Moon is challenged by Neptune, in harmony with the Sun, merges with Mars, and finds support from Uranus and Jupiter. A busy emotional day the begins with bringing our dreams into the day's vibration, then feeling balance between our inner and outer worlds, later experiencing irritable moods and critical communications, and finally having the impulse to engage in activities that make us feel more alive with people having a pleasant sense of wellbeing. The 30th is 2 - Lamat "la-maught" or Star or Rabbit: duality experienced through being grateful for abundant relationships, while the Moon in Sagittarius makes no angles and is void of course starting at 11:29 pm EDT on the 29th until moving into Capricorn at 12:41 am EDT on October 1st, so the VOC moon lasts the entire day on the 30th, which does not favor major decisions or purchases, but is good to use for resting to assimilate this latest round of energy and experiences. October 1st is 3 - Muluc "moo-luke" or Offering: taking action through appreciating creation, while the First Quarter Capricorn Moon harmonizes with Mercury and Neptune, is challenged by Venus and the Sun, and merges with Pluto which begins with being very social and having lots of conversations and having pleasant energy to be with friends and loved ones, then being very sensitive to the moods of others, later we encounter challenges to our daily routines, and finally we have more intense moods rising to the surface from deep in our psyches. The 2nd is 4 - Oc "awk" or Dog: stability through enjoying family and friends, while the moon in Capricorn is challenged by Uranus and in harmony with Saturn which shifts from folks acting hasty and jumping to conclusions that may not be correct, to later having realistic expectations through being calm and reflective. October 3rd is 5 - Chuen "shoe-in" or Monkey: empowerment through creating something new, while the Aquarius Moon is challenged by Mercury, and finds support from Venus and the Sun. The day begins with folks being critical in their communications particularly with the people they have intimate relationships with, then later enjoying social interactions with others, and finally having a sense of harmony within ourselves that supports any type of group activity and relationships with the opposite sex. The 4th is 6 - Eb "eb" or Road: being in the flow through serving your community, as Mercury turns retrograde at 2 degrees Scorpio, which is the same degree of the Sun conjunct Venus on the 25th, the same day Mercury turns direct. Even folks who don't follow astrology are aware of Mercury's retrograde effect on communication, technology and travel. This begins a time that shifts our review of information below the surface, with a focus on the Scorpio themes of secrecy, ethics and passion, until it returns to Libra on the 10th. From the 4th to the 25th would be a good time to avoid signing contracts or other legal papers, making any major purchases, or even taking a new job. If you can postpone these types of activities the terms will be much clearer after Mercury is moving direct. That may seem impossible, so if you can avoid these activities a few days before and after Mercury changing directions on the 4th and the 25th, when the energy is at its most potent, would be beneficial. The retrograde cycle provides information about a change or correction in our cosmic course. In the sign of Scorpio, the themes of powerful feelings, emotional awareness, and intuition, guiding our adjustments within our spiritual and sexual connections will be particularly apparent and could have a profound effect on our lives. Also the Mercury Scorpio combination can have our moods impacting our ability to think logically. People may be more sensitive and take what is said personally. We would benefit by being conscious of our emotional state when making appointments or calls to avoid upsetting others. The timing will be better once Mercury returns to Libra in 6 days. Also on the 4th the Sun squares Pluto, which begins a tense time period when the Sun activates the Cardinal T-square with Uranus, and Pluto. These planets are moving toward exactitude as the Libra Sun dances with each one in the first week of October. A square between the Sun and Pluto brings powerful forces that test us from within and without. These tests may lead us to make radical changes in some area of our life that is not working very well. This can be very beneficial for letting go of the old patterns or behaviors that come up for examination at this time. Holding on to what is not working will just make life more difficult. This transit also indicates that persons in authority may demand that we account for our actions or even ourselves. Some people will abuse the power they are wielding under this influence. Also this indicates a breakdown of situations and machinery. No matter what your experience something will make you aware that it needs fixing, and my advice is to fix it whether it's a machine, a relationship, a behavior, or pattern that no longer works. Also on the 4th Mars squares Chiron, in which folks may find aggressive activities, particularly with people they have had sexual relationships with, make them aware of their past wounds, so they can, if they choose to, heal them. Also on the 4th the Moon in Aquarius is stimulated by Mars and Uranus, opposed by Jupiter, and challenged by Saturn. The day moves from having the desire to work independently from others, to pleasant yet restless feelings craving emotional excitement to do something outside the daily routine, then later having feelings of generosity, and finally people feeling lonely or isolated. October 5th is 7 - Ben "ben" or Reed or Corn: reflection through maintaining the home, while Mars trines Uranus, which brings new activities and encounters, some occurring quite unexpectedly, that are exciting and have the potential for personal growth. People will want to break out of the daily routine, with personal inhibitions reduced, expect folks to engage in activities that they desired, yet didn't have the courage for before. Risk taking under this influence will give a greater sense of being alive, but also may have unexpected unpleasant consequences if things don't work out just right. This can be used to break down barriers in our lives without having to impulsively destroy everything we see as a restriction. Also on the 5th the Pisces Moon finds support from Mercury, merges with Neptune and harmonizes with Pluto. The day's emotional energy moves from feeling in touch with our emotions and expressing them to others, then later feelings of empathy for those around us, including the possibility of clairvoyance and telepathic experiences for those of us who are sensitive by nature, and finally experiencing deep emotions on a profound level. The 6th is 8 - Ix "eesh" or Jaguar: balance through enjoying nature, while the Moon in Pisces is challenged by Mars and finds support from Saturn which shifts from people feeling irritable which could lead to needless disputes, to later having a sober realistic view of life. October 7th is 9 - Men "men" or Eagle: patience experienced through seeing from a higher perspective, while the Sun opposes Uranus, which is the next alignment activating the Cardinal T-square. This brings a day that is quite different from the norm. This could be experienced as restlessness in close relationships, through one or the other feeling impatient and unwilling to put up with something, which could lead to arguments. In business partnerships this may require a radical change due to some unexpected new information or situation. This will be a time of surprise or upset related to parts of yourself that have not received adequate expression in the past. This is a time to figure out what you want and later on figure out if it's practical. For those that do not find conscious expression of this energy, they may find they are more accident prone under this influence. Over all, the winds of change are blowing us in the direction we are now aware of, due to Pluto's deeper perspective. Also on the 7th the Aries Moon is opposed by Venus which brings pleasant energy for enjoying sensual experiences and rich food with a caution against overindulgence. The 8th is 10 - Cib "keeb" or Wisdom: manifestation through introspection, meditation and forgiveness, with the Aries Full moon and lunar eclipse, being squared by Pluto, merging with Uranus, opposed by the Sun and supported by Mars and Jupiter. Full moons are a time of tension as the Sun in Libra is about balancing needs of those we have relationships with and our own personal emotional needs as individuals, represented by the Moon in Aries. Eclipses intensify the experience, especially on the part of the globe where they can be observed. The Moon challenged by Pluto affects folks as having the compulsion to act in ways that may not be good for us in the long run, but it can also help us to look inside and find what we want in any situation, as long as we are honest with ourselves. Be cautious of power struggles as people will easily slip into the role of victim or perpetrator. Merging with Uranus; people feeling impulsive and acting rashly, with moods changing quickly and unexpectedly. Forming a grand trine with Mars, and Jupiter is very favorable to balance some of the Uranus Pluto energy, with people having a pleasant sense of wellbeing from Jupiter and feeling a little more confident than usual with their ability to assert themselves in a positive manner with Mars. The conjunction with Uranus is exact an hour before the Full Moon lunar eclipse and is very tight in the chart which can bring unexpected changes and connections in our emotional nature and relationships. The ruling planet of the Libra Sun, Venus squares Pluto on the 8th, has us feeling more of the intensity of the cardinal T-square. It intensifies our emotional experiences and expression. It also brings a few days that are more challenging for relationships, as it brings secrets out into the open. This is a time of being drawn into powerful love experiences that change our consciousness, at least for a time. This may bring changes to a relationship, that our only recourse is to surrender and accommodate the shift, which can be difficult because we crave stability in relationships, and at these times relationships are anything but stable. Probably the best option is to hold loosely to those we love for a few days before and after the 8th. This could also be a time when we might hear from or contemplate contacting a former lover. Also on the 8th The ruling planet of the Aries Full Moon, Mars trines Jupiter, which has high energy for physical activities and growth of consciousness and knowledge. It brings forward movement through opening doors and opportunities that lead in the right direction. Physically this is high energy with positive feelings of being able to accomplish more work than usual. Some may feel lucky during this time period, but this transit brings the ability to act based on seeing the whole picture. This is very good for any activity to advance your own interests, but being conscious of our actions to avoid self-aggrandizement. Business is favored under this transit, as we may find ourselves blessed with insights that we don't normally have. Optimism and positive energy bring more favorable results if we find the need to take a gamble on an unknown venture. October 9th is 11 - Caban "kah-ban" or Earth: resolution through gratitude for Mother Earth, while the Taurus Moon is opposed by Mercury and in harmony with Neptune which moves from some feeling a real conflict between feelings and reason and others having fruitful expressions of their deeper awareness either internally or with another, to later being very sensitive to the moods of others. The 10th is 12 - Etznab "etz-nob" or Flint: understanding through being introspective, while retrograde Mercury moves back into Libra in which it will stay for a month as it returns to Scorpio November 8th. In Libra Mercury is about rational balanced thinking and communication. People will be more inclined to make decisions by listening to the pros and cons. Fairness is important while Mercury is in Libra. Sometimes this weighting of options turns into indecision. Mercury is social in Libra and does not wish to stir up controversy, so I'd expect to have more friendly and possibly sympathetic conversations with others over the next 29 days. I think Mercury, particularly retrograde, in Libra, will review the situations brought forward when Mars was in the sign of the scales for 8 month due to its retrograde going back and forth bringing instability and uncertainty regarding what action to take. This could bring revision to the agreements, treaties, and contacts that were implemented when Mars was completing its transit of Libra, from December 2013 to July 2014. Also on the 10th the Sun sextiles Jupiter, which is very positive for almost any activity. It brings a positive frame of mind that can be applied toward success. This "lucky" transit influences activities to work out as planned. Great energy to be with friends or work harmoniously in group situations as there is a strong energy to be included in something bigger then oneself. This is also good to reflect on our lives and goals, but it does caution against blindly assuming everything will work out perfectly, so we might want to review any plans for the future. With Jupiter involved it is easier to see the big picture. This also helps in relationships with people in authority as there is a desire to be "at one" with the sources of universal energy, and on the most mundane level that includes the desire to get along with those in power. Also on the 10th the Moon in Taurus finds support from Pluto, is challenged by Jupiter, and opposed by Saturn, which begins with feeling on a deeper more intense level under the influence of Pluto, then later benevolent and generous feelings for those in our immediate environment with Jupiter, and finally feeling lonely and isolated with Saturn. October 11th is 13 - Cauac "cow-ack" or Storm: movement to the next stage through recognizing the gifts in adversity, while Venus opposes Uranus, which activates the cardinal T-square again. When Venus is opposed by Uranus, we have a sudden unexpected occurrence in a love relationship, which may not be negative. This can be unusual, and stimulating, but also destabilizing. People will be driven to have exciting activities and experiences. The routine in relationships will not be satisfying today, and unresolved tension in love relationships may cause a rupture in the pairing. Relationships that begin under this influence will provide a break from the mundane, but may not be long lasting. Also on the 11th the Gemini Moon is challenged by Neptune which colors the day with daydreams and fantasies feeling more important than reality.

So no matter what energies are affecting you during this 1 Deer trecena, take some time to be in the flow of the planet by being in nature, watching a sunrise or sunset, communing with the stars, being conscious of the moment through introspection, meditation or being with someone you love. Every day is a blessing no matter what dramas beckon to distract us. We are all giving the performance of a life time on this world stage, just take some time to observe the play as well as act your part. Remember you are a spiritual being having a human experience.
