Astrology and Mayan Tzolkin for January 23rd to February 4th 2016

This is the "Care and feeding of a New World Age" report for Gregorian date of January 23rd 2016 and 1 – Lamat "la-maught" or Star or Rabbit or Venus in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar, with the Leo Full Moon, Venus entering Capricorn, and Mercury turning direct.

January 23rd is 1 – Lamat "la-maught" with the themes of abundance, playfulness, fertility, growth, ripeness, physical pleasure and spiritual inspiration, artistry, creation, joy and humor. One Star is also known as One Rabbit or One Venus. The glyph for Star is the planet Venus which is associated with death and rebirth as Venus disappears as the evening star and then reappears as the morning star. Venus is the Morning Star after the inferior conjunction (I.C.) when it is in front of the Sun and cannot be seen due to its close proximity to the Sun which lasts about 8 days and before the superior conjunction (S.C.) when Venus transits behind the Sun and is not visible for about 50 days. Venus is the Evening Star after the S.C. and before the I.C. Both the Morning star and Evening star phases lasts approximately 260 days and of course 260 days is exactly the length of a Tzolkin round and 1 - Star is the final trecena of the 260 day round, so the next "Care and Feeding" will celebrate a new round with 1 - Imix or Crocodile on February 5th. I think it's interesting that modern Mayanologists have emphasized the Venus transit across the face of the sun in relation to Mayan cosmology, but the Dresden Codex which details precise knowledge of Venus' full cycle, makes no mention of the transit. This makes me wonder if this is a modern projection onto the Maya, because although the Venus transit which occurs twice every 243 years, during the I.C. is remarkable when viewed from the Earth, it is certainly a lesser energetic force compared to the S.C. when Venus is hidden behind the Sun and traveling in the same direction. After all, we westerners love pyrotechnics, but might have missed the boat regarding the actual energetic as it relates to the spiritual realm. This thirteen day period would be a time to be grateful for any abundance or harvest in our lives whether it be food or spiritual insight.

Since we begin a new Gregorian month during this trecena, I thought I'd discuss the metaphysics of the upcoming month. February is the second month and with the digits for 2016, when added together we get 11, then we add 1 + 1 to tell us that this is an eleven/two month in numerology, which brings a spiritual quality to the month. Basic numerology reduces numbers to one through nine, so when we think about that arc the 2 represents a time which brings increased contact with new people, relationships, and cooperative connections, but also highlights the need for balance. The numerology in January and February 2016 repeat November and December 2015 with January being a one month and February being a two month. The eleven/two combination is represented by the Lust/High Priestess tarot cards which is about being in our strength and in our bodies while experiencing our intuition, independence, self-trust, and self-resourcefulness. Richard Moss wrote in How Shall I Live: "To me, wholeness is the key to aliveness. It is more than just a physical vitality, it is radiance, coming from being at one with yourself and your experience. Life then flows through you and radiates from you" which is a nice description of the Strength/Lust energetic. The High Priestess could be described from this quote from The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran, "For the self is a sea boundless and measureless." So February is a month to be in our bodies and radiance, that in turn empowers our sense of self, while we cultivate new connections with others. February also brings us the Chinese New Year of the Red Fire Monkey, which I'll discuss in the 1 -Imix report when we begin a new Tzolkin round and the Chinese begin a new year.

Before I get into the daily energy for 1 – Lamat "la-maught" or Star or Rabbit or Venus, on the 23rd all the planets appear to be moving forward from our vantage point on Earth, except Mercury and Jupiter which appear to move retrograde or in reverse motion. Remember the themes of retrograde planets are the review the past, re-evaluate, reminisce and we can see these themes being played out. Mercury turned retrograde January 5th and turns direct on the 25th, so the beginning of this trecena would be a good time to avoid signing contracts or other legal papers, making any major purchases, or even taking a new job. If you can postpone these types of activities the terms will be much clearer after Mercury is moving direct. Mercury retrogrades force us to slow down and pay more attention to our lives by making us focus on the details of our daily experience. When looking at a retrograde cycle of any of the personal or inner planets, it provides information about a correction to our present course. Jupiter was the king of the gods, and the planet is about good fortune, opportunities, faith, religion, beliefs and expansion. Jupiter is in Virgo and Virgo is about organization, health, and service. Mostly what I find with Jupiter retrograde, as with any retrograde cycle there is a review of the past, and with Jupiter what gets reviewed are missed opportunities.

Ok let's look at the daily vibrational energy for this trecena.
January 23rd 2016 is 1 – Lamat "la-maught" or Star or Rabbit or Venus: unity experienced through being grateful for abundant relationships in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar, while we have the Leo Full Moon, with the moon at 3 degrees 29 minutes Leo, in harmony with Jupiter, and opposed by the Sun. This is about finding balance between our social consciousness (Sun in Aquarius) and being happy, creative, and having fun (Moon in Leo) With this lunation sextile Jupiter out of sign, the day brings good feelings and congenial social interactions, which is tempered by the Sun is in the sign opposite of its rulership, thus in its detriment, bringing a little more tension to this Full Wolf Moon, indicating a time in Winter when hungry wolf pack howled outside the tribal villages. Also on the 23rd Venus enters Capricorn, which brings caution and carefulness to love relationships and social interactions. Capricorn brings a practicality to love. It also seeks security in partnering which includes material comforts. Capricorn Venus will also make us aware of any over expenditures from the time of Sagittarius Venus.

The 24th is 2 – Muluc "moo-luke" or Offering: duality experienced through appreciating creation, with the Leo Moon challenged by Mars, and supported by Saturn and Uranus. The day's emotional energy shifts from people feeling irritable which could lead to needless disputes, followed by settling into a more sober and realistic view of life, and finally having the impulse to engage in activities that make us feel more alive.

January 25th is 3 – Oc "awk" or Dog: taking action through enjoying family and friends, while Mercury turns direct at 14 degrees and change Capricorn, almost 15 degrees, heralding a time to implement the revision to our previous course that we have become aware of from the information and experiences we had during the retrograde cycle. It will take a few days to gain momentum, but over the next few days we'll feel the invisible attraction to begin our new journey. Also on the 25th the Moon in Leo makes no angles and is void of course until moving into Virgo, which does not favor major decisions or purchases, but is good to use for resting to assimilate this latest round of energy and experiences.

The 26th is 4 – Chuen "shoe-in" or Monkey: stability through creating something new, while the Virgo Moon finds support from Venus, is opposed by Neptune and stimulated by Mars. The days energy moves from enjoying pleasant feelings and social interactions, to later feeling sensitive emotionally but confused regarding the accuracy of what's being felt, and finally brings the desire to work independently from others.

January 27th is 5 Eb "eb" or Road: empowerment through serving your community, while the Moon in Virgo is challenged by Saturn, supported by Mercury and Pluto, and merges with Jupiter, which begins with people feeling lonely or isolated, followed by being more in touch with our feelings and able to share them with others, then later having intense emotions and stimulating sensitivity, which also favors sexual relationships, and finally expressing good feelings and generosity towards others.

The 28th is 6 – Ben "ben" or Reed or Corn: being in the flow through maintaining the home, with the Libra Moon challenged by Venus which brings pleasant energy for being with the others we want to know better.

January 29th is 7 Ix "eesh" or Jaguar: reflection through enjoying nature, while the Moon in Libra supported by the Sun, in harmony with Saturn, challenged by Mercury and Pluto, and opposed by Uranus. This bring a busy day of emotional stimulation that begins with feeling a sense of inner harmony which is mirrored in the outside world, followed by wanting to be alone in our thoughts and feelings, later our moods influencing our ability to think rationally, then having the compulsion to act in ways that may not be good for us in the long run, and finally folks are emotionally excitable and impulsive.

The 30th is 8 Men "men" or Eagle: balance through seeing from a higher perspective, with Mercury conjunct Pluto, which intensifies mental activity and a penetrating quality to communications along with having a critical eye for what needs to be transformed in our environment. On a mental level there is a penetrating quality to go deep in discovering the "truth" in which superficiality does not cut it. This also indicates a capacity to influence others, and to speak with a persuasive voice. People will present opinions as facts, believing they a right and the others is wrong. Be careful of who you engage with under this transit, as many with make statements with no regard for the feelings of the listener, which they may interpret as threatening. This can also bring more acute powers for penetrating analysis of human nature, which is best not shared without an invitation to do so. Let's not forget that this transit is effecting everyone so we are as likely to be the recipient of these behaviors from others, as being the perpetrator. Probably the best use of this transit is to get preoccupied with a project or idea that you work on independently from others and you wait to share until another day. While Mercury interacts with the departing Uranus Pluto square we may become aware of some area in our lives that need change or adjustment. Also on the 30th Venus sextiles Neptune, inspiring creative and romantic imagination, and is very nice energy between the planet of romantic love and her higher octave the planet of unconditional love. This might be a time when we experience universal love through our personal relationships. This is also very creative and imaginative energy, that seeks and appreciates beauty. Exposure to art, music, or poetry could help renew our consciousness during the pleasant dreamy fog of this transit. Also being in a pleasant environment such as beautiful spot in the country, a lovely garden, or looking at a majestic view will be very powerful during this transit. Neptune may give us a deeper sensitivity to the feelings and needs of our loved ones, which we are more than likely going to want to satisfy. Some may have the feeling of a soul union with another during this alignment. This is a good day to indulge in daydreams and fantasies. Also on the 30th the Moon in Libra makes no angles and is void of course until moving into Scorpio, which does not favor major decisions or purchases, but is good to use for resting to assimilate this latest round of energy and experiences.

January 31st is 9 – Cib "keeb" or Wisdom: patience experienced through introspection, meditation and forgiveness, while Mercury in Capricorn is challenged by Uranus in Aries which is a stressful alignment that pits the traditional thinking against rebellious new views. Since the outer planets tend to have more power, I believe that any rigid conservative ideas will be attacked, and transformed or released to make way for more innovative concepts, but of course Uranus is unpredictable so anything could happen. This could also be a time of increased protests with potential recklessness and violence. Personally, this can be quite stimulating bringing fascination for new phenomenon. Flexibility is the key with this transit, because the more rigid our thinking the more nerve wracking the effect. Expect the unexpected, surprises and upsets, and you will have the best chance to go with the flow, which may mean that plans for the day do not work out as expected. Epiphanies are more likely, so you may want to capture your genius thoughts in some form of record keeping, to reexamine in the days that follow. The pace is fast which can lead to sloppiness. A day to be careful of making sudden unexpected moves as accidents are more likely under this influence. Also on the 31st the last quarter Scorpio Moon finds support from Neptune, harmonizes with Venus, and is challenged by the Sun which shifts from our innermost subconscious fantasies and daydreams confusing reality, which may not be great for accomplishing much work, to later having pleasant energy to be with friends and loved ones, and finally brings challenges to following a daily routine.

February 1st is 10 – Caban "kah-ban" or Earth: manifestation through gratitude for Mother Earth, with the Moon in Scorpio merges with Mars, and harmonizes with Pluto Mercury, and Jupiter, which moves from experiencing irritable moods and critical communications, to later experiencing deep emotions on a profound level, followed by people feeling chatty and having numerous conservations, and finally feeling in the flow and having a sense of wholeness.

February 2nd is 11 – Etznab "etz-nob" or Flint: resolution through being introspective, while the Moon in Scorpio makes no angles and is void of course until moving into Sagittarius, which does not favor major decisions or purchases, but is good to use for resting to assimilate this latest round of energy and experiences.

The 3rd is 12 – Cauac "cow-ack" or Storm: understanding through recognizing the gifts in adversity, with Mars sextiles Pluto bringing energy for reconstruction of our inner world, with a harmonic connection between the traditional and modern rulers of Scorpio and an alignment between planet octaves. Mars representing our desires and personal will and Pluto is the transcendent will of the Universe and the empowerment of the authentic self. A sextile between Mars and Pluto is good for making changes in our lives and to become more effective in changing the world around us. This can stimulate peoples' ambitions without others feeling threatened. With Pluto involved, the Martian ego gets sublimated so our efforts should be for the greater good or we will sow the seeds of our own self undoing. This may affect our plans as unforeseen changes are made that bring improvement over the original plan. Great energy to work with groups in moving toward a joint goal. Also on the 3rd, the Sun sextiles Saturn which is a great day for getting things done. It brings an orderly state of mind and a strong sense of self discipline. This is practical energy that is not interested in idealistic or abstract considerations that have no application in daily life. This favors all matters related to work or profession, with what is accomplished being done carefully with wonderful concentration and attention to detail, which may impress authority figures. Advice from older people is also favored under this transit. Not the best day for relaxing, because it can be a little serious in its frame of mind. Also on the 3rd, Mercury sextile Chiron is harmonious energy for reaching a deeper understanding of healing old wounds, which will eventually grow into wisdom. Also on the 3rd, the Sagittarius Moon is challenged by Neptune, merges with Saturn, harmonizes with the Sun, and finds support from Uranus, which shifts from bringing our dreams into the day's vibration, to later wanting to be alone in our thoughts and feelings, followed by feelings of inner and outer equanimity, and finally brings a desire for emotional excitement to engage in activities outside our daily routine.

February 4th is 13 – Ahau "ah-how" or Sun: movement to the next stage through honoring the wisdom and memory of our ancestors, while the Moon in Sagittarius is challenged by Jupiter which brings benevolent and generous feelings for those in our immediate environment.

So no matter what energies are affecting you during this 1 Star trecena, take some time to be in the flow of the planet by being in nature, watching a sunrise or sunset, communing with the stars, being conscious of the moment through introspection, meditation or being with someone you love. Every day is a blessing no matter what dramas beckon to distract us. We are all giving the performance of a life time on this world stage, just take some time to observe the play as well as act your part. Remember you are a spiritual being having a human experience.
