This is the "Care and feeding
of a New World Age" report for Gregorian date of December 28th 2015 for 1
– Ik "eek" or Wind in the Mayan Tzolkin
calendar, with Venus entering Sagittarius, Mercury
entering Aquarius, Mars entering Scorpio, Mercury and Jupiter turning retrograde, Mercury returning to Capricorn, and the
Capricorn New Moon.
December 28th is 1
– Ik "eek" or Wind with the themes of air,
breath, life force, prana, chi, that which animates life, inspiration,
imagination, the spark of creativity and spirit, communication, and the
dissemination of seeds and ideas. The day glyph for wind is a T shaped cross
that represents the Mayan god of wind but is also symbolic of trees which
restore the life energy to the air. This thirteen day period would be a good time to communicate your
inspiration and connect with the life force that makes you unique. An
interesting item of note about the Wind trecena which is associated with
communication, is that the planet that is associated with communication,
Mercury, is at the peak of its power as it is stopped prior to turning
retrograde on January 5th.
Since we begin a new Gregorian month during
this trecena, I thought I'd discuss the metaphysics of the upcoming month. January is the first month and with the digits for 2016,
when added together we get 10, then we add 1 + 0 to tell us that this is a one
month in numerology. Basic
numerology reduces numbers to one through nine, so when we think about that arc
the 1 represents a time of new
beginnings. The
numerology in January and February 2016 repeat November and December 2015 with
January being a one month and February being a two month. This somewhat rare as we begin a new
numerological cycle as we begin a new Gregorian year, and made even rarer in
that all the planets are moving direct, and no planets are retrograde from
December 26th to January 4th. The 10 and the 1 are represented by the
Wheel of Fortune and Magician Archetypes in the Tarot cards. The Wheel of
Fortune is about prosperity and abundance that comes from being objective,
flexible, and creative. To quote Ruth Ross "All prosperity begins in the
mind and is dependent only upon the full use of our creative
imaginations." The 1 card is the Magician which represents the principle
of communication, represented by the god Mercury. Another interesting synchronicity related to
communication during the Wind trecena with the planet Mercury empowered. Words
were originally magic. A quote to illustrate the Magician Archetype comes from
Starhawk, "Language shapes consciousness, and the use of language to shape
consciousness is an important branch of magic." So January represents the
beginning of a new cycle which comes into being through our communications
leading us towards prosperity by being flexible, objective, and creative.
Before I get into the daily energy for 1 – Ik "eek" or Wind, on the 28th all the
planets appear to be moving forward from our vantage point on Earth, although both
Mercury and Jupiter turn retrograde during this report period. We have a brief
time before Mercury and Jupiter turn retrograde,
where all the planets are direct as 2016 begins.
The big change in January is Mercury changing directions, as it moves retrograde
on the 5th and direct on the 25th, so the middle of the month would be a good
time to avoid signing contracts or other legal papers, making any major
purchases, or even taking a new job. If you can postpone these types of
activities the terms will be much clearer after Mercury is moving direct. That
may seem impossible, so if you can avoid these activities a few days before and
after Mercury changing directions on the 5th and 25th, when the energy is at
its most potent, would be beneficial. Mercury retrogrades force us to slow down
and pay more attention to our lives by making us focus on the details of our
daily experience. When looking at a retrograde cycle of any of the personal or
inner planets, it provides information about a correction to our present
course. During this report period we have Mercury traveling through the first
stage of the retrograde process since 12/20/15.
There are two important points to be aware of in looking at the cycle. We look
at the point where the planet appears to move backwards
and the point where it appears to move forward again.
The first stage represents the shadow time between passing 15 degrees
Capricorn, the point where the planet will eventually begin moving forward
again and the point where the planet slows, stops, and begins moving in
reverse, 1 degree Aquarius. During the first stage we receive information about
needing to adjust our direction. The second stage
is the retrograde phase and is a time to watch the events that occur related to
the information received in the 1st stage. The 3rd
stage begins when the planet is moving forward again until crossing the
line where it originally turned retrograde. During the 3rd stage we move
forward with a revision to our previous course. We entered the 1st stage for
Mercury on December 20th, so from then until January 5th, we receive
information about an adjustment that needs to be made in our lives. Mercury is retrograde from 1/5 at 1 Aquarius until
1/25 at 15 Capricorn which will be the time when we will notice events that
shift our thinking, and from January 25th to February 14th, we are in the 3rd stage where we implement the change in direction
from the awareness gained through experiencing this process. Because Mercury retrogrades from
Aquarius back into Capricorn, we have two faces of the trickster. Mercury functions
better in Aquarius than in Capricorn. I'd expect people to change their minds
as Mercury changes signs. Aquarius will make us aware that our thinking has
become antiquated and is no longer fresh, this could even lead to changes in
ideology. Capricorn will have us reviewing what we do for work and whether we
feel it is providing enough stability in our lives.
If you look at the house
of your astrological chart that contains 15 degrees Capricorn to 1 degree of
Aquarius, you can find the theme where you will experience revisions, reviews
and rethinking of the characteristics represented by that house. For me that would be my eighth house of transformation,
death and rebirth, so I would set an intension related to using this energy to
go into greater depths regarding my spiritual path and beginning in Aquarius, I
will want to be open to unexpected and surprising influences that reveal new
information, perhaps regarding something outside my comfort zone. No matter where the
Mercury retrograde occurs in your chart, this often leads to changing choices,
goals, and directions. In the world look for the themes of completion through
intellectual review of the past particularly related to communications about
topics like the history of social consciousness, social justice, impartiality,
freedom, individuality, and innovation when Mercury moves through Aquarius
where it's exalted. All the Mercury retrogrades in 2016 will begin in air
signs: Aquarius, Gemini, and finally Libra, and then retrograde into the earth
signs of Capricorn, Taurus, and Virgo.
As we began January Mercury slows down and turns retrograde at 1 degree
Aquarius on the 5th. When a planet slows down to a stop from our perspective
here on earth, that planet is considered to be at the peak of its power and
Mercury being at the peak of its power reminds me that the Greek god Hermes,
who the Romans renamed to Mercury, was also the trickster god. He was the messenger of the Gods and if you weren't on his
good side you might not get your message or it might be altered to mean
something different than was intended. In
mythology the trickster is a god,
goddess, woman, man, animal or spirit that creates mischief by playing tricks
and acting outside of the accepted rules of their community. I want share this
quote from Joseph Campbell "Almost all non-literate mythology has a
trickster-hero of some kind. . . . And there’s a very special property in the
trickster: he always breaks in, just as the unconscious does, to trip up the
rational situation. He’s both a fool and someone who’s beyond the system. And
the trickster represents all those possibilities of life that your mind hasn’t
decided it wants to deal with. The mind structures a lifestyle, and the fool or
trickster represents another whole range of possibilities. He doesn’t respect
the values that you’ve set up for yourself, and smashes them. . . . The fool is
the breakthrough of the absolute into the field of controlled social
orders." And that is a great description for Mercury retrograde. It also
contains a formula for confronting a much more powerful foe. Being cunning over
fighting on their terms.
With Jupiter appearing to be stopped at the opening of the
month prior to appearing to move retrograde or in reverse motion from the
perspective of the Earth on January 7th at 23
degrees of Virgo. When a planet is stopped it is
said to be at the peak of its power. Jupiter was the king of the gods, and the
planet is about good fortune, opportunities, faith, religion, beliefs and
expansion. Virgo is about organization, health, and service, so we will see
these themes expanded at the beginning of January. Jupiter entered into its
retrograde shadow period on October 13, 2015 which developed opportunities that
will be reviewed when Jupiter turns retrograde on December 7th. Mostly what I
find with Jupiter retrograde, as with any retrograde cycle there is a review of
the past, and with Jupiter what gets reviewed are missed opportunities. When
Jupiter turns direct on May 9th 2016 at 13 degrees of Virgo, we will have
become aware of a change in course regarding how we will expand our
opportunities for health,
organization, and/or being of service.
Jupiter will take a few days to build momentum in moving reverse. In your
personal life you may want to look at 13 to 23 degrees Virgo to become aware of
the house that is currently feeling Jupiter's expansive influence. For me,
Jupiter is in my fourth
house of the home and inner world, so I might use this retrograde period to
renew my home environment, such cleaning or doing home repairs or some type of
inner work on myself.
Ok let's look at the daily vibrational energy for this trecena.
December 28th 2015 is 1 – Ik "eek"
or Wind: unity experienced through
communication in the Mayan Tzolkin calendar, while the Leo Moon finds support
from Saturn and Uranus which begins with having a sober realistic view of life, and
later shifts to having the impulse to engage in activities that make us feel
more alive.
The
29th is
2 – Akbal "awk-bol" or Night: duality
experienced through contemplating the stars, while the Sun sextiles Neptune
which lowers the demands of our egos allowing us to sense other people's energy
and circumstances and makes us more willing to help out. This could be positive
for fund raising for a charitable organization. This also encourages spiritual
and mystical knowledge and experiences through spending time alone in a
meditative state, particularly given that energy for physical activities will
be lowered. This helps soften the energy for arguments that is associated with
the square of Mercury to Mars. Mercury square Mars also on the 29th, compounds the intensity with another
difficult transit. This one has people feeling touchy and irritable, with
almost any communication interpreted as a challenge. Hard to imagine that
someone doesn't get set off by the implied attitude of this transit. People
will feel the drive to defend their ideas, from a simple debate to and all out
fight. This time it would be important to realize beliefs and thoughts can
change and to not indentify our ego with them. This is yet another transit that
indicates the potential to be involved in accidents. This particularly likely
for someone who trying to suppress their anger. Also on the 29th the Moon in Leo is
stimulated by Mars and challenged by Venus which moves from having the desire
to work independently from others, to later pleasant energy for being with the
others we want to know better.
December
30th is
3 – Kan "con" or Seed or Lizard: taking action
through planting seeds and making new
connections, while Venus moves into Sagittarius which brings the spirit of adventure to our
love affairs. First attractions may seem very romantic, but the happy wanderer
is not sure about sacrificing freedom for the relationship. Anyway this is
outgoing energy for social engagements, travel and spirited friendships. Venus
is also about money, as well as romance and socializing, so until January 24th
when Venus enters Capricorn, folks may feel as though money is more abundant
with Venus in Sagittarius. Also on the 30th the Virgo Moon is opposed by Neptune,
supported by the Sun and Pluto, and challenged by Saturn, which shifts from
feeling sensitive emotionally but confused regarding the accuracy of what's
being felt, to later feeling a sense of inner harmony which is mirrored in the
outside world, followed by people feeling
lonely or isolated,
and finally with Pluto bringing out intense emotions and stimulating
sensitivity, which also favors sexual relationships.
The 31st is 4
– Chicchan "chee-chan" or Serpent: stability through being flexible,
with the Moon in Virgo merging with Jupiter which brings good feelings and
generosity towards others.
January
1st is 5 - Cimi "key-mee" or Transformation: empowerment
through releasing what no longer serves us,
with Mercury
enters Aquarius, which due to turning retrograde
on the 5th, will spend one week in the water barer before returning to
Capricorn. Mercury moving into Aquarius shifts the focus of communications
and thinking to social consciousness, while being true to our individuality to
share our inventive ideas with groups and communities. Also on the 1st the Moon
finds support from Mercury and harmonizes with Venus which moves from being
more in touch with our feelings and able to share them with others, to having
pleasant energy to be with friends and loved ones.
The
2nd is 6
– : being in
the flow through man-eek"being of service to others, while the fourth quarter Moon in Libra being challenged the
Sun and Pluto, in harmony with Saturn, and opposed by Uranus, which shifts from
encountering
challenges to our daily routines,
to later wanting
to be alone in our thoughts and feelings,
followed by having
the compulsion to act in ways that may not be good for us in the long run, and finally folks are emotionally excitable and impulsive.
January
3rd is 7 – Lamat
"la-maught" or Star or Rabbit or Venus: reflection through being grateful for abundant relationships, with Mars entering Scorpio, after almost 2 months in the sign of
its detriment: Libra, Mars has found its way to the sign of its traditional
rulership. Mars in Scorpio brings persistence and intensity, but also emotional
sexuality. Scorpio Mars is hard driving, resourceful, determined, relentless,
purpose directed, but can also be displayed as jealousy, anger, resentments,
and hurt feelings. Mars will be in Scorpio until March 5th. Also on the 3rd the
Scorpio Moon merges with Mars and challenged by Mercury which moves from
experiencing irritable moods and critical communications, to later folks being
critical in their communications particularly with the people they have
intimate relationships with.
The
4th is 8 Muluc "moo-luke" or Offering: balance
through appreciating creation, with the Moon in Scorpio supported by Neptune,
and in harmony with the Sun and Pluto which shifts from our innermost
subconscious fantasies and daydreams confusing reality, which may not be great
for accomplishing much work, followed by feeling balance between our inner and
outer worlds, and finally having deep emotions finding their way to the surface
and felt on a profound level.
January 5th
is 9 – Oc "awk" or Dog:
patience experienced through enjoying
family and friends, while Mercury turns retrograde at 1 degree Aquarius. Even folks who don't
follow astrology are aware of Mercury's retrograde effect on communication,
technology and travel. This begins a time that shifts our review of information
related to innovation and social reform, with a focus on the Aquarius themes of
higher mind, group consciousness and intuition. From the 5th to the 25th would
be a good time to avoid signing contracts or other legal papers, making any
major purchases, or even taking a new job. If you can postpone these types of
activities the terms will be much clearer after Mercury is moving direct. That
may seem impossible, so if you can avoid these activities a few days before and
after Mercury changing directions on the 5th and the 25th of next month, when
the energy is at its most potent, would be beneficial. The retrograde cycle
provides information about a change or correction in our cosmic course. Also on
the 5th Mercury squares
Mars, which continues to compound the
intensity with another difficult transit. This one has people feeling touchy
and irritable, with almost any communication interpreted as a challenge. Hard
to imagine that someone doesn't get set off by the implied attitude of this
transit. People will feel the drive to defend their ideas, from a simple debate
to and all out fight. This time it would be important to realize beliefs and
thoughts can change and to not indentify our ego with them. This is yet another
transit that indicates the potential to be involved in accidents. This
particularly likely for someone who trying to suppress their anger. Also on the 5th Venus squares Neptune which is an alignment between
planet octaves. Venus representing personal love and Neptune representing
unconditional and universal love. The romantic imagination is active under this
transit, which can lead to unrealistic expectations regarding loved ones.
Please remember your partner is a mere mortal, by not holding them to an
impossible romantic ideal that no one could or should try to attain.
Relationships that are damaged by this transit are not usually based on
reality. This is positive for daydreaming that leads to artistic expression.
Overall we are likely to feel an expansion in compassion and empathy which
benefits activities like meditation, music and art which may seem transcendent,
but not such a great day for business on the material plane. Also on the 5th
the Sun conjuncts Pluto which illuminates underlying experiences, usually of a
dark nature, that leads to fundamental evolutionary changes from within. This
can bring the power of changes that we see as major occurrences in the world
with the themes of growth, evolution, decay and death, along with rebirth and
regeneration. Some of us may have to contend with a person who is trying to
exert unreasonable power over us, which will likely force us to defend our
right to do things in a way that is correct for us. With Pluto this may have
hidden elements that have powerful ramifications. Also on the 5th the Scorpio
Moon harmonizes with Jupiter influences people to feel in the flow and have a
sense of wholeness.
The
6th is 10
– Chuen "shoe-in" or Monkey:
manifestation through creating something new, while the
Sagittarius Moon in harmony with Mercury, challenged by Neptune, and merging
with Venus which moves from being very social and having lots of conversations,
followed by daydreams
and fantasies feeling more important than reality, and finally feels cheerful,
warm, gregarious, and wanting to go out and socialize.
January 7th is 11 – Eb "eb" or Road: resolution through serving
your community, while Jupiter turns retrograde in Virgo. Retrogrades bring a time of
review. Jupiter is about opportunities, so this may begin a time when people
review their missed opportunities particularly related to their health,
organization, and/or being of service. For some this might be a time of
thinking of a lost love with whom you considered as a potentially healthy
relationship, or a job where you could serve others that was dropped by the
wayside. Jupiter retrograde also has us reviewing any expansion we have
encountered since Jupiter moved into Virgo on August 11th 2015. Also on the 7th
the Sun squares Uranus, which is a disruptive transit adding to the likelihood of upsets
and behaviors that are upsetting to others. Also unexpected mechanical
problems, a sudden argument, or separation within a relationship. With the Sun
involved we are talking about a conflict between egos. Folks will also be more
likely to feel restless, so it might be important to be conscious of this
possibility, and find a way to allow the restless energy to express itself,
rather than being shocked by how it gets expressed unconsciously. This adds to
the accident prone energy of the transits at this time. This is a time to
realize those accidents are not happening to you, you are creating them. The
drive to do something free and liberating is strong, just try to exercise
enough consciousness to give it expression without causing damage to your life. Also on the 7th the
Moon in Sagittarius merges with Saturn, is supported by Uranus, and challenged
by Jupiter which shifts from wanting to be alone in our thoughts and feelings,
to later folks acting hasty and jumping to conclusions that may not be correct,
and finally having benevolent and generous feelings for those in our immediate
environment.
The 8th is 12 - Ben "ben" or Reed or Corn: understanding through maintaining the home, with retrograde
Mercury returning to Capricorn, which reviews practical information and communications in the
sign of business, government, industry, and finance, where Pluto has been focused on breaking down these systems
since 2008. Mercury in the sign of the goat-fish is serious in its
communications and thinking. This begins a good period for business and thinking
about goals for 2016. Also
on the 8th Venus conjuncts Saturn in Sagittarius where
love and affection are tempered by practical considerations. This can have a
sobering view point regarding relationships. Folks may seek the advice of older
people (Saturn) regarding relationships (Venus). Saturn is also limitation so
this maybe a time of parting temporarily or breaking up. Relationships that
begin under this influence are long lasting and loyal, but not particularly
exciting. For relationships that are going well at this time Venus merged with
Saturn makes us aware of our commitments which would be good for getting
engaged or working of marital problems. Also on the 8th the Sun sextile Chiron
illuminates our past wounds, bringing a deep awareness to allow healing to
occur. Also on the 8th the Capricorn Moon is stimulated by Mars which brings
the desire to work independently from others.
January 9th
is 13 –
Ix "eesh" or Jaguar: movement to the next stage through enjoying nature, while we have the Capricorn New Moon at 19 degrees 13 minutes, in
harmony with Neptune, merging with Pluto and the Sun, and challenged by Uranus.
Capricorn is ruled by Saturn, this new moon represents new beginnings related
to work, commitments, discipline, elders, which might begin as a limitation or
obstacle that must be overcome or at least bypassed, so that the new energy can
precede. This lunation sextile to
Neptune influences us with greater sensitivity to others' emotions with
possible psychic impressions for those who are open, conjunct Pluto brings more intense moods
rising to the surface from deep in our psyches, and square Uranus may have
folks acting hasty and jumping to conclusions that may not be correct. New Moons bring the opportunity to set an
intension for manifestation on the following full moon. Look to the house of
your astrology chart that contains 19 degrees 13 minutes of Capricorn to
consider what area of your life is being activated by this new moon. For me
that would be my eighth house of transformation,
death and rebirth, so I would set an intension related to using this energy to
go into greater depths regarding my spiritual path. Pluto also in
Capricorn brings in
transformational elements into the new moon, so there is a transformative
purpose aligned with the new opportunities that are opening up. This New Moon is particularly potent for making big changes
through taking a leap of faith, during this numerological One month of new
beginnings, as we begin 2016. Certainly releasing outdated limitations, like
removing your mask at the masquerade new year's party, to reveal a greater
awareness of our authentic true self, our new direction, and purpose.
So no matter what energies are affecting you during this 1 Wind trecena, take
some time to be in the flow of the planet by being in nature, watching a
sunrise or sunset, communing with the stars, being conscious of the moment
through introspection, meditation or being with someone you love. Every day is
a blessing no matter what dramas beckon to distract us. We are all giving the
performance of a life time on this world stage, just take some time to observe
the play as well as act your part. Remember you are a spiritual being having a
human experience.
